• E-mail other members using the built-in e-mail tool (requires subscription)

Joining GayCupid.com:

You fill out three pages to join GayCupid.com. The first asks you for a valid e-mail address and asks you to choose a password. The second page asks you a series of multiple choice questions such as where you live, your height, age, ethnicity, nationality, do you drink, smoke, the languages you speak, proficiency at English, whether you would relocate to another country, eye color, weight, education level, and so on. It also asks you to guage how attractive you are! It then asks you to write a paragraph or two about yourself and what you're looking for in a partner. The third page asks you to complete the same multiple choice questions all over again, but this time with reference to the man you're looking for. Finally you will have the option of uploading your photo.

As a free member you may perform basic searches and view all member profiles and photographs. However, to access additional features and contact other members you will need to upgrade to either gold or platinum membership. These differ as follows...

Gold Membership to GayCupid.com:

• Advantages: Contact free or paying members through email or instant messaging and / or read mail or instant messages from free or paying members, use the chat room, create your own profile, add 5 photos, add a personality profile, include your personal contact information in messages that you send to members and rank your profile above Standard members.
• Disadvantages: Does NOT allow you to view video greetings, or send or receive video mail.
• Recommended for: Members who want to initiate contact with other members and want to obtain maximum interest in their profile.

Platinum Membership to GayCupid.com:

• Advantages: The ultimate membership option for the most discerning members. Initiate contact with free or paying members through email, voicemail or videomail. Read mail or instant messages from free or paying members. Use video, voice or text instant messaging, create your own profile, add 5 photos, use the chat room, add a personality profile, record your own video greeting or send or receive video or voice mail, include your personal contact information in messages and rank your profile above Gold Members.

• Recommended for: Anyone seeking marriage or anyone who wants to use the video chat, video recorder or video messaging system.

Performing a Search on GayCupid.com:

GayCupid.com has an advanced search system that lets you search for exactly the type of person that you are looking for. As a Gold member you can select from a wide range of search criteria including:

• Country of residence
• Star sign

• Education level
• Height range
• Smoker
• Drinker
• etc

Editor's Verdict:

GayCupid.com is a fairly simple, straightforward gay dating site with some fairly advanced features, including voice and video messaging. It also has chat rooms, though these are perhaps not as good as many other gay chat rooms, notably those to be found on Gay.com, which many members regard as the best around. As a free member on GayCupid.com you may perform unlimited searches and browse through the member profiles, though in order to contact another member you must upgrade your membership to gold or platinum level.

The quick search feature on the front page of GayCupid.com only allows you to search by 4 countries: the USA; the UK; Canada and Australia, though once you are signed up as a free member you may search by any country in the world. However, your initial search may only be refined to the region or state in which you wish to search - you may not search by city! At first this seems like a major drawback, but having performed your search you may then use the "Update Search" box at the bottom of the search results page to further refine your search by the city of your choice. This means that in order to search by city, you essentially have to perform two searches - first you must search by country and state, and then you must search within your preliminary search results by city. We have no idea why GayCupid.com have chosen to this round about way of allowing you to perform your search, but after a while it does get a bit annoying. Another major drawback to the search feature on GayCupid.com is that it won't allow you to refine your search any further than searching by city. Many other gay dating sites allow you to search for members within 1 mile of your ZIP code, allowing you to find other gay members who are literally on your doorstep. But this feature is not included in GayCupid. The lack of this feature usually implies that there are not that many members subscribed to the site, and we have a feeling that this may be the case with GayCupid.com, though the exact number of members remains unknown. Another disadvantage to the search form is that it allows you to search for women or men - there is no option to allow you to search specifically for gay men or bi/curious men. Also there is no option to allow you to search fot TS/TV/TG's. And why would it allow you to search for women when this is a site for gay men?!

There is a magazine section to GayCupid.com with sections like travel, scene, fitness, events calendar and community info, though the content of this section is so sparse that we wonder why the makers of GayCupid.com bothered including it at all.

In summary, GayCupid.com is straightforward to use and simple in design with many of the features you would expect of a gay dating site, but it does have its limitations. We also suspect that the size of the members database may be relatively small in comparison with some of the other well known gay dating sites that we have reviewed - see our top 10 list of gay dating sites here. The joining fee is reasonably priced, but for the exact same price you could join Gay.Date.com, which offers you so much more bang for your buck! Signing-up as a standard member to GayCupid.com is free so by all means click on the button below and perform a few searches for guys in your area, but for our money we would definitely go for Gay.com or IWantUGay.com if you're looking for gay sex, and Gay.Date.com if you're looking for a gay relationship. Maybe as the members database grows and grows, GayCupid.com would be worthy of your attention, but, for now at least, we recommend you check out some of the other gay dating sites in our top 10 list.
